Samsung’s Tri-Fold Phone Design Leaks Ahead of Launch — Here’s What We Know So Far
With just days left until Samsung’s much-anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9th, 2025, fresh details have surfaced about the company’s rumored tri-fold smartphone — potentially named the Galaxy G Fold. According to findings by Android Authority, the design of the tri-fold device has been spotted in a recent build of One UI 8, offering an early glimpse into Samsung’s most innovative foldable yet.
New ‘Multifold’ Design Revealed
The leaked animations suggest that the phone features two hinges, enabling a unique folding mechanism. Unlike traditional foldables, this device folds inwards in two stages: first, the left panel folds inward, followed by the right panel folding over it. Interestingly, the left front panel is not a display, but rather a blank section that supports the folded form factor.
Given the double-fold approach, Samsung may brand this model under a new term — “Multifold” — instead of “tri-fold,” since the device physically folds twice, not thrice.
Camera and Display Innovations
The rear side of the device houses a total of four cameras, including a triple camera island on the left panel and a punch-hole camera located on the middle display section. Notably, Samsung appears to have skipped its usual under-display camera for this model.
This multifold design allows for a larger inner display, estimated to be around 9.96 inches, significantly expanding screen real estate when compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Z Fold 7. When folded, the device is expected to be 6.54 inches tall and weigh approximately 298 grams — possibly making it thicker than existing Galaxy foldables.
Inspired by Prototypes Like Flex G and Flex S
The design philosophy seems to build upon previous Samsung prototypes such as the Flex G and Flex S. In the Flex G approach — which this device closely mirrors — both outer panels fold inward, enhancing screen protection. Meanwhile, the Flex S concept introduces an S-shaped fold where one side folds inward and the other outward, resembling Huawei’s Mate XT.
The animation files found by Android Authority refer to the device as “Multifold 7,” although it’s unclear whether this is an internal codename or the final product name.
What to Expect at Galaxy Unpacked
Alongside the Galaxy G Fold, Samsung is expected to unveil its next generation of foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. However, the Galaxy G Fold/Multifold is likely to steal the spotlight as Samsung’s boldest foldable innovation yet.
As always, official confirmation and specifications will only be known once Samsung takes the stage on July 9th. Until then, these leaks give tech enthusiasts plenty to look forward to.
