Heavy Floods in Texas After 10 Inches of Rainfall: 13 Dead, Over 20 Girls Missing from Summer Camp

USA Flood Tragedy: A devastating overnight downpour has triggered severe flooding in the Hill Country region of Texas, USA. Reports indicate that more than 10 inches of rain fell within a few hours — an amount typically seen over several months. The intense rainfall caused the Guadalupe River to overflow, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 people, while more than 20 girls from a summer camp have gone missing. Rescue teams are currently using boats and helicopters to reach those stranded in the floodwaters.

River Rose 22 Feet in Just Two Hours

In Kerrville County, the heavy rainfall led to flash flooding, causing the river’s water level to rise rapidly. According to the National Weather Service, the Guadalupe River near Hunt, Texas, rose by an astonishing 22 feet in just two hours. Meteorologist Bob Fogarty said, “The water rose so quickly, people didn’t even have time to react.” County Judge Rob Kelly confirmed that several bodies have been recovered, though the victims’ identities have not yet been released. “Our rescue efforts are ongoing, but the situation is extremely difficult,” he added.

Summer Camp Girls Still Missing

One of the worst-hit locations was Camp Mystic, a private Christian girls’ summer camp near Hunt. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick stated that 23 girls from the camp are still missing and urged Texans to pray for their safety. In an email to parents, Camp Mystic said families of the found children have already been notified. However, the camp is currently without electricity, Wi-Fi, and water, and access roads have been washed out, further complicating rescue operations.

Meanwhile, two other nearby camps — Camp Waldemar and Camp La Junta — posted on Instagram confirming that all of their children and staff are safe.
