Vadodara, July 22, 2025: A shocking incident unfolded in Gorwa, Vadodara, where a petrol pump owner, overwhelmed by debt, attempted suicide along with his wife, two sons, and a daughter by consuming poison. The family ingested the poison early on the morning of July 21 and planned to jump into a canal near Halol. However, they began vomiting and instead rushed to Sayaji Hospital for treatment.
According to police sources, the head of the family, Subhashbhai, owns a petrol pump in Nandesari GIDC and had accumulated a debt of approximately ₹6 crore. He had reportedly taken multiple bank loans and borrowed money from relatives, leading to extreme financial stress.
Jawaharnagar Police Inspector J.N. Parmar confirmed that the family attempted suicide due to financial distress. The wife told authorities that their home loan and debts had created immense pressure on the family. “My husband runs a petrol pump and was under a lot of tension. We all decided to die together. The poison was brought home a year ago and consumed yesterday,” she said.
The family resides in a society near Jalanand Township in Gorwa. The members include a 52-year-old father, a 49-year-old mother, a 23-year old son with mental disability, a 17-year-old daughter studying at MS University, and a 5-year-old younger son.
The woman further revealed, “We consumed poison at home and left for our native village near Halol, planning to jump into the canal. But after severe vomiting, we drove straight to Sayaji Hospital.”
This incident echoes another similar tragedy that occurred just a day earlier, on July 20, in Bagodra village of Ahmedabad district. There, a family of five consumed poison and died, allegedly due to financial problems.
Police are currently recording statements and investigating the matter further. Cyber and forensic teams may be involved as the case unfolds.
