Surat: The three-day district-level Children’s Science Exhibition 2024 was inaugurated by the State Minister for Forest and Environment, Mukeshbhai Patel, at Vidyadeep Junior College, Anitha, Olpad. The event, organized jointly by GCERT-Gandhinagar, District Education and Training Bhavan-Surat, the Office of the District Education Officer, and Vidyadeep Junior College, is based on the theme “Sustainable Future through Science and Technology” and is scheduled from November 28 to 30. Over 410 students from various schools in Surat district are participating in the event.
During the inaugural ceremony, Mukeshbhai Patel highlighted the importance of scientific exhibitions as a medium to unlock the latent talents and creativity of children. Citing India’s “Missile Man” Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he emphasized that science provides direction to tackle challenges in human life and enhances innovative thinking in children.
He further stated that the State Government’s Education Department encourages schools to organize annual science exhibitions to develop scientific temperament and research-oriented thinking among students. “Science and technology are the bedrock of life, and societal progress is achievable through innovative experiments,” he added.
The minister also addressed the need for effective waste management and environmental conservation to mitigate the impact of global warming. He stressed the adoption of green energy and achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the future.
The exhibition features 205 science models based on themes such as food health and hygiene, transportation, communication, natural farming, mathematical models, computational thinking, and disaster management. First, second, and third prize winners in various competitions were honored with certificates and trophies.
Minister Patel visited the exhibits, engaging with the student scientists and encouraging them to contribute significantly to the field of science and the nation’s development.
The event witnessed the presence of dignitaries such as Bhartiben Rathod, Chairperson of the District Panchayat Education Committee; Nitaben Patel, Taluka Panchayat President; Rajendra Patel, Chairperson of the Municipal Education Committee; Dr. Bhagirathsingh Parmar, District Education Officer; Jayesh Patel, District Primary Education Officer; Jayantibhai Patel, President of Vidyadeep Charitable Trust; Principal Sanjaybhai; VC Vipulbhai; teachers, and numerous students.
