Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to cleaning the Yamuna River, emphasizing that the efforts are proceeding in a time-bound manner. She highlighted that desilting operations are actively underway, with hundreds of officials and numerous machines deployed across the city to expedite the process.
In addition to the river cleanup, CM Gupta announced plans to transform 50 acres of previously encroached land in Uttam Nagar into a public park. This initiative aims to enhance green spaces and provide recreational areas for residents.
The Delhi government has also unveiled a ₹1,500 crore plan for Yamuna cleaning and sewage management. This comprehensive strategy includes repairing and developing sewage treatment plants, replacing old sewer lines, and improving water treatment facilities across the city.
Furthermore, CM Gupta has set a three-year target to significantly improve the condition of the Yamuna. Collaborations with organizations like the Territorial Army are being considered to form dedicated task forces aimed at protecting the river’s floodplain and preventing illegal dumping.
These concerted efforts reflect the government’s prioritization of environmental restoration and commitment to rejuvenating the Yamuna River for the benefit of Delhi’s residents.
