Child Found Dead After Falling into Open Drain in Surat, 24-Hour Search Ends in Tragedy
In a tragic incident in Surat’s New Katargam area, a two-year-old child fell into a 3-foot deep open drain around 5:30 PM on February 5th. Despite a 24-hour-long intensive search by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Fire Department, the child’s body was recovered from the Varyav Pumping Station the following day, on February 6th.
Following the incident, the family and local residents initiated a search for the child, but when he was not found, the Fire Department was alerted. The team immediately reached the site and began searching the drainage line with the help of cameras. Rescue operations were suspended late at night but resumed early the next morning with the involvement of NDRF teams. Tragically, the child was found lifeless.
The child, identified as Kedar Sharadbhai Vegad, had been playing with his mother when he ran towards an ice cream shop. While running, he accidentally fell into the uncovered open drain, located on a road 120 feet away from his residence. This heartbreaking incident occurred just days after the child’s birthday.
