Vivo has started teasing its upcoming foldable smartphone, the X Fold 5, which will succeed last year’s Vivo X Fold 3. While the exact launch date has not yet been announced, the phone is expected to debut later this month. Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao has confirmed several key hardware specifications, including the use of 8T LTPO AMOLED panels for both the inner and outer displays.
Key Features Confirmed
According to Han Boxiao, the Vivo X Fold 5 will support up to 4,500 nits of local peak brightness. The display will include full-brightness high-frequency PWM dimming and TÜV Rheinland Global Eye Protection 3.0 certification. Vivo claims the screen will deliver ultra-high resolution and pixel density, while the Zeiss Master Colour system ensures accurate color reproduction.
The phone will also be functional in temperatures as low as -30°C, thanks to second-generation semi-solid battery technology. This updated battery extends the solid electrolyte from the positive electrode to the negative electrode, offering improved reliability in extreme conditions.
Water and Dust Resistance Ratings
The Vivo X Fold 5 is confirmed to feature IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+ certifications—making it resistant to 3-meter-deep water, high-temperature/high-pressure sprays, and even underwater folding scenarios. Moreover, Vivo claims this will be the first foldable phone in the industry to feature an IPX5 dustproof rating, making it more durable than its predecessors.
Apple Watch and iPhone Interconnectivity
In a unique move, Vivo X Fold 5 will support Apple Watch pairing, enabling it to display incoming calls, text messages, and health data from the smartwatch. The health data can also sync with Vivo’s Health app.
The phone will also offer built-in iCloud integration via its file management system. Vivo has implemented dual-device interconnectivity, which allows users to view SMS messages and verification codes received on their iPhone directly on the X Fold 5.
