Vaani Kapoor Replaces Ileana D’Cruz as Ajay Devgn’s Wife in Raid 2; Ajay Says, “In Hollywood Too, Roles Often Change Hands”
Ajay Devgn is set to return to the big screen as the honest and fearless Income Tax officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2.
At the recent trailer launch of the film, one question dominated the conversation: why isn’t Ileana D’Cruz reprising her role as Amay’s wife, and why has Vaani Kapoor been cast instead?
Ajay and Vaani addressed the speculation during the event. Ajay responded, “You see this happen in Hollywood films as well. After Sean Connery, several actors have played James Bond. Audiences follow the character, not just the actor. New faces come in and bring their own flavor to the role.”
Vaani Kapoor was quick to dismiss any rumors of tension with Ileana. She said, “There’s no jealousy between Ileana and me. We share a great off-screen rapport. As an actor, your job is to portray your role with sincerity, based on the director’s and writer’s vision.”
She added, “This film gave me an opportunity to explore a different side of myself. It’s been a refreshing experience.”
Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 is the sequel to the 2018 hit Raid. The story once again delves into a high-stakes white-collar crime, with IRS officer Amay Patnaik at the center of the action.
Ajay Devgn and Saurabh Shukla will reprise their original roles, while Vaani Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh join the cast as new additions.
