Uttarakhand Becomes the First State to Implement UCC
In a historic move, Uttarakhand is set to become the first state in India to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The law will come into effect today around 12:30 pm, just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.
UCC to Apply Across the State and to Out-of-State Residents
The Uniform Civil Code will be applicable to all residents of Uttarakhand, including those living outside the state. A dedicated UCC portal will also be launched today at the State Secretariat, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami leading the program.
CM Dhami: A Step Towards a Harmonious Society
CM Dhami emphasized that the UCC would lay the foundation for a society free from discrimination based on religion, gender, caste, or community. He highlighted that the implementation of the UCC fulfills a key promise made by the state government during the 2022 assembly elections.
Promises Fulfilled Under PM Modi’s Leadership
The Chief Minister also recalled how the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was another example of fulfilling promises under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He assured that the state government had completed all necessary preparations for the UCC’s implementation starting from January 2025.
