Trump on Washington’s Clean-Up: “Didn’t Want PM Modi to See Tents and Filth”
Trump Orders Clean-Up of Washington, D.C.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he did not want Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi or other foreign leaders to witness tents, graffiti, and broken roads in Washington, D.C. Speaking at the Justice Department on Friday, Trump emphasized his commitment to restoring the nation’s capital, ensuring it remains clean, safe, and presentable for visitors.
Immediate Action to Improve Washington’s Image
Trump revealed that Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser had been working on the city’s clean-up efforts. He mentioned that tents had been set up near the State Department and that he ordered their immediate removal. His goal, he stated, was to transform the capital into a globally admired city rather than an eyesore for visiting dignitaries.
Ensuring a Clean and Safe Capital for World Leaders
Trump specifically noted that when leaders like PM Modi, the French President, and the UK Prime Minister visited, they should not encounter makeshift tents, graffiti, or damaged roads. He ensured that their travel routes were inspected and cleaned in advance. Trump reiterated his commitment to making Washington, D.C., a safer, cleaner, and more attractive city.
A Vision for a Secure and Pristine Capital
Trump stressed that visitors should not have to worry about crime, robberies, or shootings in the U.S. capital. He assured that Washington, D.C., would soon be safer, cleaner, and better than ever.
On February 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Trump at the White House for a bilateral meeting. This visit made Modi the fourth foreign leader to meet Trump after his second presidential term, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
