In a significant development, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that “Operation Sindoor,” launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, is ongoing and has resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists. The operation targeted nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, focusing on terrorist infrastructure linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
During an all-party meeting in New Delhi, Singh emphasized that the operation was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” deliberately avoiding Pakistani military installations. He assured that India would respond firmly if Pakistan escalates the situation.
The meeting, attended by key political figures including Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, showcased a unified stance across party lines. Opposition leaders expressed full support for the government’s actions, emphasizing national unity during this crisis.
Asaduddin Owaisi lauded the armed forces and the government’s efforts, urging a global campaign against The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba. He recommended that India push for TRF’s designation as a terrorist organization by the United States and advocate for Pakistan’s re-listing on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, citing Pakistan’s alleged support for terrorist activities.
The Pahalgam attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, mostly Hindu tourists, has intensified tensions between India and Pakistan. India’s Operation Sindoor aims to dismantle terrorist networks responsible for such attacks, while Pakistan has condemned the strikes, alleging civilian casualties and vowing retaliation.
International leaders, including those from the US, UK, China, and Turkey, have expressed concern over the escalating situation, urging both nations to exercise restraint and engage in diplomatic dialogue to prevent further conflict.
