Renowned classical singer Maithili Thakur, who was once praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is likely to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 from her home constituency Madhubani.

Speculation grew stronger after BJP Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde shared pictures of Maithili and her father meeting Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in New Delhi. The meeting hinted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may offer her a ticket to contest from either Madhubani or Aligarh (Darbhanga).

Sharing the photos on X (formerly Twitter), Tawde referred to Maithili as “Bihar’s daughter” and said, “The families that left Bihar after Lalu came into power in 1995, the daughter of that family, Maithili Thakur ji, wants to return to Bihar seeing the pace of changing Bihar.”

Both Nityanand Rai and Vinod Tawde encouraged Maithili to “contribute to Bihar and fulfil people’s expectations.”

Responding to the post, Maithili expressed gratitude, saying, “The people who dream big for Bihar, every conversation with them reminds me of the power of vision and service. Honoured and grateful from the heart.”

Maithili Thakur, hailing from the Mithila region (Madhubani and Darbhanga), has shown interest in entering politics if given a chance by the BJP.

The Bihar election schedule was announced on Monday. Voting will be held in two phases — November 6 and 11, while the counting of votes will take place on November 14.
