The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections and bypolls in some states today at 4 PM. This comes after a two-day review meeting in Bihar, where the ECI met political parties, officials, and agencies to ensure that the elections are free, fair, and peaceful.

The Bihar elections are likely to see a direct contest between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and the Mahagathbandhan alliance, led by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav. At present, the 243-member Bihar Assembly has 131 members from the NDA and 111 from the Mahagathbandhan.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said in a press conference in Patna that 17 new initiatives have been introduced for the upcoming polls. “Seventeen new initiatives have been successfully implemented in Bihar; some will be used during voting and others during counting,” he said. These new steps aim to make the election process more transparent, secure, and voter-friendly.
