The Indian Navy is set to boost its maritime defense by inducting a new fleet of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) ships, responding to Pakistan’s expanding underwater capabilities. The move signals India’s focus on securing its waters amid rising regional tensions.
According to defence officials, the new ASW vessels are designed to detect and destroy enemy submarines, ensuring naval dominance in the Indian Ocean Region. These ships will be equipped with advanced sonar systems, torpedoes, and electronic warfare suites.
This development comes as Pakistan strengthens its submarine fleet with Chinese-built vessels and indigenous upgrades. Intelligence sources report that Pakistan aims to enhance its underwater stealth capabilities to challenge India’s maritime edge.
A senior naval officer said, “India cannot ignore these regional developments. The induction of modern ASW ships is critical for deterrence and quick response to underwater threats.”
The Indian Navy’s modernization plan also includes indigenous shipbuilding under the Make in India initiative, ensuring strategic self-reliance. With a sharper focus on undersea warfare, India is reinforcing its readiness for emerging naval threats in the region.
