Turkman Gate: The security measures are still in place at the entrance of Turkman Gate in Central Delhi, a day after the clashes took place due to a court-ordered anti-encroachment operation. The police, in a statement issued on Thursday, said sufficient police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area to ensure law and order.

The violence erupted early yesterday morning when the officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were undertaking an anti-encroachment drive in the vicinity of the Faiz-e-Elahi Mosque and a graveyard situated in the Ramlila Maidan area based on the directions of the Delhi High Court. In the process, the locals were reported to have begun hurling stones at the cops.

In this incident, at least five police personnel were injured. Police resorted to the use of teargas shells to disperse the situation. Four males have been arrested, and one juvenile has also been taken into custody for the incident. Also, an FIR has been registered, and police are analyzing the CCTV footage and videos to locate more people involved.

Reports indicate the violence was occasioned by a social media message claiming the mosque was being torn down. However, the police have indicated that the region seems to have returned to calm and is under close security monitoring by senior officers. The residents have called for peace.
