Ahmedabad, April: Bajaj Auto has introduced an updated version of its flagship streetfighter, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, now powered by a smaller 349cc engine. The move comes in response to revised GST norms, enabling the company to significantly reduce the bike’s overall pricing.

Engine Downsized for Tax Advantage

The biggest change in the 2026 Pulsar NS400Z lies in its powertrain. The earlier 373cc engine has been replaced with a 349cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit. While the bore size remains unchanged at 89mm, Bajaj has modified the stroke length to achieve the reduced displacement.

Despite the downsizing, the engine produces 40.6 PS of power and 33.2 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The company claims improved refinement and better fuel efficiency with the new setup, even though there is a slight drop in performance.

GST 2.0 Brings Price Reduction

The strategic reduction in engine capacity is aimed at benefiting from updated tax regulations. Under the new GST 2.0 framework, motorcycles below 350cc attract significantly lower taxation compared to higher-capacity models.

As a result, the new Pulsar NS400Z is now priced at ₹1.93 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most value-for-money offerings in its segment.

Hardware Remains Unchanged

Apart from the engine update, the motorcycle retains its existing hardware setup. It continues to feature 43mm USD front forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock suspension. Bajaj has ensured that the handling and ride dynamics remain consistent with the previous version.

Feature-Rich Package

The updated NS400Z comes equipped with a host of advanced features:

  • Bi-directional quickshifter with slip-and-assist clutch
  • Four riding modes: Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-road
  • Dual-channel ABS with 320mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes
  • LCD instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation

Dimensions and Colors

The bike offers a seat height of 807 mm, ground clearance of 168 mm, and a kerb weight of 174 kg. It is equipped with a 12-litre fuel tank. Tyre sizes include a 110-section front and 150-section rear setup.

Customers can choose from four color options: Glossy Racing Red, Brooklyn Black, Pewter Grey, and Pearl Metallic White.

Understanding the GST Shift

In India, motorcycles with engine capacities above 350cc fall under a higher taxation bracket, often considered a luxury segment. By bringing the engine below this threshold, Bajaj has leveraged lower tax rates, directly passing on the benefit to customers through reduced pricing.

With this update, Bajaj aims to strike a balance between performance, affordability, and regulatory compliance, making the Pulsar NS400Z more accessible to a wider audience.
