Surat: Investigation to be conducted into AMNS Company Blast; Police Hand Over Bodies of Four Victims Overnight, Company Faces Possible Action After Report

In Surat, at the Hajiara-based ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) company, a devastating fire incident resulted in the deaths of four employees. The bodies of the victims were so severely burnt that it became impossible to identify them. DNA samples were collected from the families of the deceased for identification. Based on the preliminary report, the police handed over the bodies to the families overnight on January 2. Although the official DNA report has not yet been received, the families took the bodies from the Civil Hospital early in the morning on January 3.

Bodies Handed Over to Families Based on Preliminary DNA Results

Dr. Ketan Nayak, the RMO at Surat Civil Hospital, mentioned that the beginning of the new year turned out to be extremely tragic for four families. Following the blast at AMNS in Hajiara, the four victims lost their lives due to the resulting fire. The bodies were so burnt that even the families were unable to recognize them. DNA samples were taken from the victims’ relatives, including the brother of Jigesh Parekh, the father of Dhaval Patel, and the father of Sandeep Patel. Additionally, the blood sample of Ganesh Budh’s brother, Shrikrishna Budh, was also taken. Based on the preliminary DNA report, the bodies were handed over to the respective families late in the evening, and they left the hospital with the bodies early the next morning.

Civil Hospital Staff Provides Assistance to Families

For three days, the families and relatives of the deceased waited day and night at the Civil Hospital, remembering their loved ones. However, no company officials visited them during this time. Meanwhile, Dr. Ketan Nayak and Dr. Lakshman from the Civil Hospital displayed humanity by providing comfort to the families and organizing meals for them. They also arranged for an ambulance to transport the body of the deceased from Mahuva.

Collector Orders Investigation into Incident

In light of the serious nature of the incident, Surat District Collector Dr. Saurabh Pardhi has instructed the Olpad taluka officer to investigate the matter and submit a report. The taluka officer and their team will begin the investigation at AMNS’s Corex-2 plant. The collector has set a two-day deadline for the submission of the report.

Possible Action Against the Company Based on Report

After the investigation, the report will shed light on how the incident occurred and the actions taken by the company. The complete findings will be submitted to the Surat District Collector. Based on the report, a decision will be made on whether to form a committee and take further steps. The report will determine what action, if any, will be taken against the company.
