Hyderabad, (Telangana) [India] September 20, 2024: The Jigyasa team from Anurag University, Hyderabad, made history by winning the prestigious World CanSat and Rocketry Championship (WCRC) held in Aveiro, Portugal. The team, consisting of G. Maniram (CSE, 3rd year), Y. Bala Praneeth Sagar (ECE, 3rd year), T.R. Divyakanth (ECE, 3rd year), and Rujul Rumale (ECE, 2nd year), emerged victorious, defeating six teams from countries including Portugal, Romania, and Serbia.
This global competition, renowned as the pinnacle of CanSat and Rocketry innovation, saw Anurag University not only securing the title of “World Champions” but also earning the prestigious “Best Communication” award. The team’s CanSat was lauded for its innovative structural design, effective communication systems, advanced battery management, comprehensive data collection, and flawless survival and recovery mechanisms.
The competition required the participants to fulfill two primary mission objectives: transmit telemetry data every second and survive both floating and submerged conditions after landing in water. The secondary mission involved testing water quality and maintaining RF communication post-landing. Despite fierce competition, Team Jigyasa successfully completed both the primary and secondary missions, distinguishing themselves from other teams.
Under the guidance of mentors Prof. M. Narayana (ECE) and Dr. P. Vishwanath (MECH), the team designed and developed a CanSat that stood out for its handmade elements, including circuits, parachutes, and antennas. The unique flap-like design helped the CanSat float on water, contributing to its success in the competition.
The victory celebration at Anurag University included a grand procession and a felicitation ceremony attended by over 400 students. The students expressed their gratitude towards their mentors, university management, and fellow student Rakshit Raj (MECH, 3rd year) for his support with the structural design.
This achievement not only highlights the talent of Anurag University students but also cements India’s place in the world of CanSat and Rocketry.
