PM Narendra Modi Launches Delhi–Meerut RRTS: Dedicates Meerut Metro to the Nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the Delhi-Meerut (RRTS) Regional Rapid Transit Systemand dedicated the Meerut Metro to the nation, achieving a significant milestone in improving connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). The event was organized at the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station in Meerut.

The Prime Minister launched the 5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, as well as the 21 km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in the state of Uttar Pradesh. With this, the entire 82 km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor is now operational.

The Namo Bharat RRTS, designed for speeds of 180 km per hour, is the first high-speed regional transit system in India. The project aims to reduce travel time significantly between Delhi and important urban areas like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut. The project is expected to revolutionize the lives of thousands of commuters by providing them with faster, safer, and more convenient travel options.

The Sarai Kale Khan station has been created as a large multimodal transport node. The station provides connectivity to the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road.

As a part of the launch of the project, three new stations in Meerut – Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram – have also been opened. These new stations are expected to enhance intra-city mobility and ease congestion in Meerut.

The Prime Minister has also launched the Meerut Metro services running between Meerut South and Modipuram. For the first time in India, the Metro will run on the same lines as the Namo Bharat RRTS corridor. With a maximum operating speed of 120 km per hour, it becomes the fastest Metro in the country, taking the entire route in 30 minutes with all scheduled stops.

According to officials, the integrated model of regional rapid transit and metro services marks a new way of thinking about urban planning and development. The project aims to provide flexible transportation solutions by integrating long-distance rapid transit and metro connectivity.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS and the Meerut Metro are also expected to have positive impacts on the environment. The projects are expected to decongest roads and reduce traffic bottlenecks and emissions by promoting the use of public transport rather than private vehicles. This is in line with the government’s efforts to promote sustainable and green transport solutions.

The opening of the corridor is a major step towards the modernization of the transportation infrastructure in India and the integration of Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh. The corridor is expected to enhance development in the real estate sector due to improved connectivity.
