Bharat Bandh: The Congress party is extending its support to the strike called by trade unions across the nation. This strike will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026. This strike is being called to protest against the decisions of the central government.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that trade associations, farmers, and workers were protesting across the nation with concerns over the trade deal of the Modi government. Further, the Congress leader claimed that the government has been diluting the effectiveness of the MGNREGA scheme, which aims at providing employment to rural families.

Rahul Gandhi also extended his support to the protest. He said that the government was ignoring the voices of workers and farmers while making important decisions regarding their future. He even questioned if PM Narendra Modi would listen to the voices of the people, or were there strong pressures from somewhere.

The strike has been called by a joint forum of central trade unions. The unions have pointed out that the government’s new labour codes and policies are against workers and farmers. The government has been accused of adopting anti-people and pro-corporate policies.

The mobilisation of nearly 30 crore workers will take place under what they call a “general strike.” Employees from various sectors are expected to participate in the strike, which will be a one-day protest against their resistance to the Centre’s policies.

The strike is expected to affect services in various parts of the country as the unions push for amendments in labour reforms and increased security for workers and farmers.
