The IPL 2025 Eliminator between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) faces a rain threat. Fans are asking – what happens if the match gets washed out?
According to IPL rules, if the Eliminator cannot be played due to rain and there’s no reserve day, the team that finished higher in the league stage standings automatically progresses to Qualifier 2.
In this case, if GT finished higher than MI in the points table, GT would move forward. If MI were ranked higher, they would qualify instead. The league stage ranking becomes the deciding factor.
There’s no Super Over or rescheduling for a washout in the Eliminator. While the IPL generally reserves a day for the final and Qualifier 1, the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 usually don’t have reserve days.
So, unless weather clears up or the match gets even a 5-over-per-side game, the team placed higher in the standings will go through. This rule puts extra importance on finishing strong in the group stage.
🌦️ Fans and organizers are hoping for clear skies. But if rain wins, the team that performed better during the league will get rewarded.
