Volvo Cars has officially rebranded its first electric SUV, the XC40, to the EX40 in India. The Swedish automaker recently updated its website to reflect the new name and increased the price of the electric SUV by approximately ₹1.50 lakh. While the XC40 Recharge will remain available until stocks last, Volvo will position the EX40 as its entry-level EV offering thereafter.
The name change from XC40 Recharge to EX40 follows Volvo’s global strategy, where its EV lineup now begins with “EX,” such as the EX30 and EX90. Similarly, the C40 electric crossover, already available in India, may soon be renamed EC40.
Motor Power and Speed
The EX40 is powered by a single electric motor on the rear axle, generating 234 bhp and 420 Nm of peak torque. The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.
Battery, Range, and Charging
The EX40 features a 69 kWh battery pack, providing a range of approximately 475 kilometers on a full charge. With an 11 kW charger, the battery can be fully charged in 7 hours. The SUV also supports DC fast charging, enabling a full recharge in just 34 minutes.
Pricing
The EX40 is priced at ₹56.10 lakh (ex-showroom), making it slightly more expensive than the XC40 Recharge, which was priced at ₹54.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
Updated Features
Volvo has enhanced the feature list of the EX40 compared to the XC40 Recharge. Key updates include:
- 360-degree camera
- Harman Kardon sound system (previously available only in the higher dual-motor variant of XC40 Recharge)
- 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- 12-inch digital driver display
- Panoramic sunroof
- Electrically adjustable front seats
- Wireless charger
The EX40 retains several features from its predecessor while introducing these updates to offer a premium electric SUV experience.
