Two-Day International Conference Explores the Integration of AI and Natural Intelligence for a Better World

The FIMT School of Law, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully hosted a groundbreaking two-day multidisciplinary international conference on “The Integration of Artificial Intelligence and Natural Intelligence for Creating a Better World.” Held on February 28 and March 1, 2025, at the Multipurpose Hall & Auditorium, the conference attracted a dynamic mix of 250 students and faculty from BA LLB and BBA LLB programs, along with renowned scholars, practitioners, and academicians from around the globe.

Over the course of the event, participants engaged in vibrant discussions and witnessed the presentation of 60 research papers that delved into the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors. The conference was structured around three technical sessions, with two sessions conducted virtually and one in a physical setting, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of both AI’s benefits and the challenges it poses.

The first day of the conference featured two technical sessions. The initial session, titled “AI in Legal Education, Governance, and Justice,” was chaired by Prof. Dr. M. Afzal Wani and Prof. (Dr.) Shaveta Gagneja. This session examined how AI is revolutionizing legal education in India, enhancing research, writing, and teaching methodologies within the legal domain. Scholars discussed how innovative AI tools are reshaping the traditional educational landscape and streamlining administrative processes in legal institutions.

In the second technical session, held virtually under the sub-theme “AI for Societal and Global Transformation,” Dr.Kushani De Silva, Subject Matter Expert at CRDF Global and CEO of Gloir in Sri Lanka, co-chaired alongside Ms. Swati Pandita from the Research Cell. This session provided insights into how AI is being leveraged to optimize agriculture, manage energy consumption, and improve urban planning. Moreover, discussions highlighted AI-powered strategies aimed at mitigating climate change, underscoring the global impact of AI integration on societal transformation.

The inaugural ceremony commenced at 2 PM on the first day with a welcome address by Chairman Shri V.K.N. Bhardwaj. Hon’bleMr. Justice Siddharth Mridul, Former Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, participated online and delivered a special conference address, setting a visionary tone for the discussions that followed. Prof. Towhidul Islam from the University of Dhaka further elaborated on the significance of blending natural and artificial intelligence, while Prof. (Dr.) Shivani Goswami captivated the audience with a keynote address on the intersection of AI and gender justice. The opening day concluded with a vote of thanks from the Director of the School of Law, Prof. (Dr.) Shaveta Gagneja.

On the second day, Technical Session 3 focused on “AI in Governance, Security, and Justice” and was held virtually. Chaired by Ms Bhavna Mahadew of the University of Mauritius and Dr. Gururaj from NIRMA University, the session featured 20 presentations. Discussions centered on leveraging AI for cyber threat detection, risk mitigation, and the development of autonomous systems while emphasizing the need for responsible AI governance.

The valedictory ceremony began at 2 PM on the second day with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afzal Wani, Advisor at FIMT. The ceremony witnessed addresses from several distinguished speakers, including an online address by Prof. Mary Lou Frank of the University of Georgia, followed by presentations by Ms.Bhavna Mahadev and Dr.Kushani De Silva. The conference report was read by Dr.Shivani Singh, culminating in a special address by Prof. (Dr.) Anuj Vaksha focusing on AI and constitutional morality. The event concluded with a proposed conference resolution by Prof. (Dr.) M. Afzal Wani and a final vote of thanks by Dr. Sonia from the School of Law.

This international conference has set a robust foundation for future research and collaboration, highlighting the immense potential of integrating artificial intelligence with natural intelligence to create a better, more equitable world.
