PM Modi Begins Roadshow in Ahmedabad Ahead of Nicol Rally, Congress Leaders Detained
Ahmedabad, August 25, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off his two-day visit to Gujarat with a grand roadshow from Naroda Haridarshan crossroads to Nicol Khodaldham Ground on Monday evening. Waving to cheering crowds from his car and later stepping out to greet supporters with the Indian tricolor in hand, PM Modi received a rousing welcome amid bands, slogans, and festive celebrations.
The Prime Minister will address a massive rally in Nicol later today, where he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth ₹5,477 crore. His visit to Gujarat will continue on August 25 and 26, marking another significant public outreach event in the state ahead of upcoming political campaigns.
Massive Security Deployment in Nicol
Given the scale of the event, authorities have arranged tight security and traffic management across Nicol and surrounding areas. Police personnel have been deployed along the entire route of the roadshow, with special surveillance measures in place. Senior police officials confirmed that additional units of paramilitary forces have also been kept on standby to ensure smooth conduct.
Congress Protest Foiled by Police
Earlier in the day, Congress leaders and workers staged protests against the Prime Minister’s visit, citing issues of poor roads and alleged electoral malpractices. The party had planned to display black flags during the roadshow, but police intervened before the demonstrations gained momentum.
Several senior Congress leaders, including party spokesperson Nagji Desai, Ahmedabad City Congress President Sonalben, and Vice President Amit Nayak, were placed under preventive detention. Additionally, NSUI activists attempted to wave black flags at the starting point of the roadshow but were swiftly detained by police officials.
Green Room and High Tea Arrangements
At the Nicol rally venue, organizers have made elaborate arrangements for the Prime Minister and other dignitaries. A dedicated green room has been set up near the stage, complete with high tea service including juice, tea, coffee, and snacks for leaders and VIP guests.
Officials from the Gujarat BJP and local administration have confirmed that all arrangements are in place to accommodate the large gathering expected at the Nicol Khodaldham Ground.
PM Modi’s Recent Gujarat Visits
This is not the first major visit by the Prime Minister this year. He had previously toured Gujarat on May 26–27, 2025, shortly after the “Operation Sindoor” initiative. That visit too saw massive public turnout, reinforcing his strong connect with the people of the state.
Significance of the Visit
Political observers note that Modi’s two-day Gujarat tour, with the high-profile roadshow and inauguration of multi-crore projects, is designed to boost the government’s development narrative while energizing party workers in the region.
Meanwhile, opposition protests highlight persistent dissatisfaction over infrastructure issues, local governance, and electoral concerns. However, Monday’s events demonstrated the Prime Minister’s continuing ability to draw large crowds and command attention, even amid political contestation.
As PM Modi prepares for his Nicol rally later today, all eyes remain on the scale of announcements and his message to the people of Gujarat.
