As of June 3, 2025, India’s active COVID-19 cases have risen to 3,961, nearing the 4,000 mark. This increase includes 47 new infections reported in Delhi, raising the city’s active caseload to 483. Mumbai has also recorded 20 new cases, contributing to Maharashtra’s growing numbers. Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi are currently the most affected regions.

The recent surge is attributed to the emergence of the NB.1.8.1 Omicron subvariant, known for its high transmissibility. Despite the uptick in cases, health experts emphasize that most infections remain mild. However, they advise continued vigilance, especially among vulnerable populations.

In the past 24 hours, India has reported four new COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the total fatalities since January to 32. The deceased include individuals with pre-existing health conditions, underscoring the importance of protecting high-risk groups.

Health authorities recommend maintaining preventive measures such as mask-wearing in crowded places, regular hand hygiene, and staying updated with vaccinations. The public is urged to remain cautious and adhere to guidelines to curb the spread of the virus.
