The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi as temperatures have dropped approximately 5°C below the seasonal average. The national capital is bracing for thunderstorms and additional rainfall, following recent weather disturbances that have led to cooler conditions.
On Monday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1°C and a minimum of 22.6°C, both four degrees below normal. The IMD has forecasted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 60 km/h for the coming days. These conditions are attributed to moisture-laden southwesterly winds affecting the region.
Residents are advised to exercise caution, especially during peak traffic hours, as the weather conditions may lead to waterlogging and reduced visibility. The IMD’s yellow alert signifies the need for awareness and preparedness for potential weather-related disruptions.
In addition to the weather changes, Delhi’s air quality has shown improvement, moving into the ‘moderate’ category with an AQI of 158, down from 197. However, fluctuations between ‘moderate’ and ‘poor’ air quality levels are expected over the next six days.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions during this period of unpredictable weather.
