New Delhi: India has now become the world’s second-largest 5G mobile market, surpassing the United States. According to a recent report by Counterpoint Research, India achieved this milestone by increasing its 5G smartphone shipments, gaining a 13% market share. China remains in the top position with a 32% share, while the U.S. has fallen to third place with a 10% share.
The report also noted that global 5G handset shipments saw a 20% year-on-year increase in the first half of 2024. Apple leads the global 5G smartphone shipments with over 25% market share, driven by the success of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 series. Samsung follows with a 21% share, thanks to the popularity of its Galaxy-A and S-4 series.
In India, the demand for 5G smartphones is growing rapidly, making the country an important global market. Brands like Xiaomi and Vivo have seen significant growth in India, with Xiaomi experiencing triple-digit growth in the country. For both Xiaomi and Vivo, India has become a key driver of their global expansion.
