Nitish Kumar : Take Oath as Bihar CM

Nitish Kumar is set to return as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record 10th time after the NDA’s sweeping victory in the 2025 assembly elections. He will be sworn in for the fourth time since 2005 at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna today.

Nitish, who was chosen as the NDA legislature party’s leader, resigned on Wednesday and immediately asserted his right to form the new government, extending his nearly two decades of power in state politics. The SPG’s supervisory arrangements have greatly increased security throughout Patna. With the help of 128 CCTVs, drone surveillance, and snipers on high rise buildings, more than 2,500 security guards, 250 police officers, and 250 magistrates have been deployed.Major roads leading to the venue have been blocked off, and metal detectors have been installed at every gate.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi are among the national leaders who will attend the ceremony.

Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha are expected to hold the deputy chief minister positions, but Mangal Pandey of the BJP is also being considered. Leaders from the BJP and JD(U) are vying for the Speaker’s position, which is still up for debate.

Today is expected to see the final Cabinet list, which is expected to include about 36 ministers: 16 from the BJP, 14 from the JD(U), and the remaining number assigned to NDA allies. With the BJP becoming the largest party and the NDA winning 202 of 243 seats, the alliance’s solid mandate is confirmed as Nitish takes office for a second term.
