OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has purchased one of the world’s oldest and most high-profile domains, Chat.com, from HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah for approximately ₹130 crore (USD 15 million). Chat.com is now directly linked with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Deal Finalized in March
Dharmesh Shah announced the sale of Chat.com to OpenAI on social media platform X, while OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, also posted about the deal, simply stating “Chat.com.” Sources reveal that the deal was finalized in March, and Shah also received OpenAI shares as part of the transaction. The acquisition of Chat.com is a strategic move by OpenAI, which recently launched its GPT search tool.
A Major Business Strategy
The integration of Chat.com is part of OpenAI’s larger business strategy to make its products more globally accessible. ChatGPT, a popular AI platform, will benefit from this strategy as OpenAI continues to strengthen its position in the AI space.
