As the heat continues to grip Gujarat, relief is on the horizon with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting the timely onset of the southwest monsoon. Scattered showers have already begun in several parts of the state, and the weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in multiple districts in the coming days.
Monsoon Set to Arrive on Time
This year, the monsoon is expected to arrive in Gujarat right on schedule. According to the IMD, a developing weather system over southern India will lead to light rainfall across various regions of Gujarat until June 15. After that, the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase, with the possibility of moderate to heavy rain along with thunder and lightning. Compared to 2024, the state may receive above-average rainfall this year.
The average maximum temperature for June is projected to remain around 37.5°C, but the arrival of monsoon will gradually bring down the heat. Historically, Gujarat receives the most rainfall during July and August, as noted by Skymet Weather.
Monsoon Progression Timeline Across Gujarat
The monsoon made its official onset over Kerala on May 27, which is five days earlier than normal.
In Gujarat, southern districts are expected to receive the first monsoon showers by June 12.
Ahmedabad and surrounding central districts are likely to witness monsoon rains between June 20 and 25.
The entire state is expected to be covered by the monsoon by June 30.
