PM E-Drive: Buyers to Get Subsidy of Up to ₹10,000 in the First Year for Electric Two-Wheelers, Benefits for E-Rickshaws Too

Under the PM E-Drive scheme, people who buy electric two-wheelers will receive a subsidy of up to ₹10,000 in the first year. The scheme is expected to launch soon.

Union Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Thursday that the subsidy for electric two-wheelers will be based on the battery’s power, at ₹5,000 per kilowatt-hour. The total subsidy in the first year will not exceed ₹10,000. In the second year, this subsidy will be reduced to ₹2,500 per kilowatt-hour, with a maximum benefit of ₹5,000. This benefit will last for two years.

For e-rickshaws and other three-wheelers, buyers will get a benefit of ₹25,000 in the first year, which will decrease to ₹12,500 in the second year. For cargo three-wheelers (L5 category), the subsidy will be ₹50,000 in the first year and ₹25,000 in the second year.

How to Claim the Benefit:

Buyers will need to upload a selfie on the PM E-Drive portal to claim the subsidy. A verified e-voucher, signed by both the buyer and the dealer, will also be uploaded on the portal.

Production Testing Every Six Months:

To prevent misuse of the subsidy, Heavy Industries Secretary Kamran Rizvi said the government will conduct production tests every six months to ensure everything is in order.

When asked if manufacturers who violated the FAME-II guidelines would be excluded from the PM E-Drive scheme, Kumaraswamy said a decision will be made on how to handle such cases.
