Need for Speed Heat will be available on Origin Access and EA Access starting June 16th. NFS Heat has recently been brought to Steam so you can play this game on your PC without having to install the Origin Launcher. It has also been announced that Need for Speed Heat will be EA’s first game to support cross-play across PS4, Xbox One, and PC. After installing the latest update for the game, you will be asked if you wish to turn on cross-play in the patch notes screen. If you don’t want to turn on cross-play right then, you can still change your preference later from ‘Privacy Settings’.
You can find your friends using the ‘Find Players’ menu but you need to make sure that they have already turned on cross-play to see their names on the list. Within the ‘Party Menu’, the ‘EA Friends’ tab will show you if any of your friends are online.

With the release of Xbox Series X and PS5 just around the corner, Criterion Games has decided to focus on developing the next big Need for Speed game. This cross-play update with minor bug fixes is probably going to be the last big update for Need for Speed Heat on current-gen as the company is putting all hands on deck for next-gen. On June 18th, at EA’s summer game showcase, you can learn more about plans of Criterion Games for the next big Need for Speed game and future strategies for other games from EA including Apex Legends.
Even though the current-gen is approaching the end of its lifecycle, more games seem to be adopting cross-play. The cross-play restrictions on PS4 were entirely wiped off last year allowing developers to make multiplayer matches across the major platforms a possibility. Do you think EA will adopt cross-play for Apex Legends? Let us know in the comments below.
