Ekagra, the grandson of Infosys founder Narayan Murthy, has become one of India’s youngest billionaires. At just 17 months old, Ekagra received 15 lakh shares of Infosys from his grandfather last year, with their current value being approximately ₹214 crore.

In the fourth quarter of the 2024-25 financial year, Ekagra received a dividend of ₹3.3 crore on these shares. Over the course of the year, he has received a total of ₹10.65 crore in dividends. Previously, he had received ₹7.35 crore in dividends.

On April 17, Infosys announced its Q4 results for the financial year 2025. The company declared a dividend of ₹22 per share for its shareholders for this quarter.

Ekagra received ₹4.2 crore in dividends in the previous financial year. On April 18 of the previous year, Infosys had announced its Q4 results for FY24, declaring a dividend of ₹28 per share for its shareholders.

Infosys shares drop 28% in 6 months

On April 17 (Thursday), Infosys shares closed at ₹1,427.70, after a 1.03% increase prior to their quarterly results. In the last month, the company’s shares have fallen by 11.29%, by 27.46% in the last six months, and by 24.16% since the beginning of this year (January 1). The company’s market capitalization stands at ₹5.88 lakh crore. From January 16 to April 17, Infosys’s market value decreased by approximately ₹2.16 lakh crore.

Some companies periodically distribute a portion of their profits to shareholders in the form of a dividend. If you invest in such companies, you benefit in two ways: first, by receiving a portion of the company’s profits, and second, through potential gains from an increase in the share price.

Narayan Murthy names his grandson

On November 10, 2023, Narayan Murthy’s son, Rohan Murthy, and daughter-in-law, Aparna Krishnan, became parents. Narayan Murthy named his grandson Ekagra. Narayan Murthy and Sudha Murthy also have two granddaughters, Krishna Sunak and Anushka Sunak, both daughters of their daughter, Akshata Murthy, and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Infosys was founded in 1981

Infosys was founded by Narayan Murthy in 1981. He served as the company’s CEO until 2002, after which he was the chairman of the board from 2002 to 2006.

Murthy retired in August 2011 as Chairman Emeritus but returned in 2013 as Executive Chairman. During this time, his son Rohan Murthy worked as his executive assistant.
