Mouni Roy is an Indian actress who has worked in many television serials and few movies as well. She is also trained in the Indian dance form Kathak and she is best known for her role in supernatural Naagin series for which the actress has won a couple of Best Actress awards.

Childhood and Personal Life

Mouni Roy is a Bengali and she hails from Cooch Behar, West Bengal. It can be said that acting is in her blood as her grandfather Shekhar Chandra Roy and mother Mukti Roy were theatre artists. Her father Anil Roy was employed as Office Superintendent of the Cooch Behar District Council.

Mouni Roy completed her schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Baburhat, which is in Cooch Behar. Her parents wanted her to do a course in mass communication and for this purpose, she took admission in Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi, but she was not happy with it as she had seen different dreams.

After giving examination of part 1, Mouni Roy left the course in middle and shifted to Mumbai. She started working hard for pursuing her dream of making a career in acting and in the year 2004, she was seen in the movie “Run” as a background dancer in a song.

Television Career

Mouni got her first break in acting when she played the character of Krishna Tulsi in Balaji’s Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2007. Since then, she has never looked back and has appeared in many serials and reality shows. Some of her famous serials are Kasturi, Do Saheliyaan, Devon Ke Dev…..Mahadev, Junoon – Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq, Naagin series and others.

She has also taken part in many reality shows and hosted some shows as well. She not only took part but also won the Zara Nachke Dikha season 1 along with other actresses – Jennifer Winget and Karishma Tanna.

In the year 2008, she was dating actor Gaurav Chopra and with him, she participated in the family reality show Pati, Patni Aur Woh. She also took part in dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season seven with her partner Punit Pathak. She was a co-host of the dance show So You Think You Can Dance and also played cricket in the Box Cricket League.

Movies Career

Mouni acted in a Punjabi film Hero Hitler in Love in 2011 but she got her big break in the year 2018 when she was cast opposite superstar Akshay Kumar in the movie “Gold” which was directed by Reema Kagti.

In 2019, her two movies got released – “Romeo Akbar Walter” and “Made in China”. Mouni’s upcoming movies are Aamir Khan starrer “Mogul” and “Brahmastra” which is directed by Ayan Mukherjee and has a big star cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbeer Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

Relationships

Mouni dated one of the most famous actors of television Gaurav Chopra but both of them kept mum regarding their relationship and break-up. Mouni’s name was linked with actor Mohit Raina but they denied all the rumours and Mouni went on to say that she and Mohit are not even friends.

Presently, she is said to be single as she wants to focus only on her movie career.
