Surat: To make Surat district safer from cybercrimes and to protect the public from online fraud, the Surat Rural Police Department, in collaboration with the District Education Officer and the District Primary Education Officer’s office, organized the “THINK, BEFORE YOU CLICK” Cyber Awareness Campaign at the Maliba Campus of Uka Tarsadia University in Mahuva, Surat district.

In the event, Education Minister Profulbhai Pansheriya stated that the digital age has been a great gift to the world, but it also brings its adverse impacts. He urged students to avoid the temptation of gaining something for free. He explained that greed can lead to relationships without love or emotions, adding that while you may have a million followers on Facebook, none of them will stand by you when you are in trouble; only your parents will. He advised students to not hesitate to inform their parents, teachers, or the police if they face any cyber issues.

The Minister also announced that, in collaboration with the Education Department and the Police Department, cybercrime awareness will be spread among students. Through these efforts, students will gain knowledge from their teachers and also educate their families, creating a chain of awareness. He highlighted the growing concern of children falling victim to cybercrimes through social media, sometimes even leading to tragic consequences like suicides. He emphasized the need for each school to have a teacher whom students can trust to share their problems and concerns openly. Teachers should take the responsibility of guiding students about cybercrimes and helping those who may be trapped in them.

Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mohanbhai Dhodiya mentioned that with the proper coordination between the Education and Home Departments, essential cyber knowledge will be provided to the public. He appealed that the journey of imparting cyber knowledge should start with students, who would, in turn, spread this knowledge to others.

During the event, a film on cyber fraud awareness was shown, which provided interesting and useful information to all attendees. Various students, teachers, police officers, and youth brand ambassadors from different schools in the city and district were honored with certificates by the Minister.

The event was attended by prominent personalities including MLA Ishwarbhai Parmar, District Panchayat President Bhavini Ben Patel, District Police Chief Hitesh Joysar, Former District Panchayat President Bhaveshbhai Patel, Bardoli Taluka Officer Jignaben Parmar, District Education Officer Bhagirathsinh Parmar, Primary Education Officer Jayeshbhai Patel, senior police officers, officials, school administrators, trustees, teachers, students, and citizens.
