Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday submitted his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, clearing the path for the formation of a new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the state. The move comes after the NDA’s decisive victory in the recent Bihar assembly elections, where the coalition secured a strong majority.
Nitish Kumar’s resignation followed a crucial meeting of the outgoing cabinet held a day earlier, in which the council of ministers passed a resolution authorising him to take the “necessary action” regarding the formation of the next government. After tendering his resignation at Raj Bhavan, Nitish Kumar returned to his residence, having also handed over a formal letter recommending the dissolution of the current government to the Governor.
Sources in the NDA camp have indicated that preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government, which is expected to take place on November 20 in Patna. Top NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, are likely to attend the event, making it a high-profile political occasion.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, speaking to news agency IANS, hinted at the timeline for the new government, saying, “We only know that the oath-taking ceremony will be on the 20th.” Discussions are believed to be ongoing within the NDA regarding cabinet portfolios and the final composition of the new council of ministers.
Nitish Kumar’s resignation marks yet another transition in Bihar’s dynamic political landscape. With the NDA firmly in control of the assembly, the new government is expected to focus on stability, infrastructure, employment, and law and order as key governance priorities in the coming term.
