New Delhi, July 31, 2025: The auspicious month of Shravan began on July 25 this year and holds immense spiritual significance for devotees of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu scriptures, especially the Shiva Purana, offering daily abhishek (ritual bathing) to Lord Shiva can bring peace, wealth, and overall well-being. Even a simple offering of water is believed to please Lord Shiva and invoke his blessings.
What Makes Shravan So Special?
The month of Shravan gets its name from the Shravan Nakshatra, which appears on the full moon day during this period. The Skanda Purana and Shiva Purana mention two reasons for the name one astronomical and the other spiritual. The word “Shravan” is also linked to listening and learning, emphasizing the month’s importance for inner reflection and purification.
This year, Shravan will end on Saturday, August 23, and includes four Mondays, which are considered highly auspicious for Shiva worship.
What to Offer Lord Shiva Each Day of the Week?
According to Shiva Purana, while water is the simplest and most sacred offering, using specific items each day of the week can enhance the spiritual benefits:
Monday: Offer raw milk and Bilva Bael leaves for peace and fulfillment of desires.
Tuesday: Use sandalwood paste and water to remove obstacles and gain inner strength.
Wednesday: Offer honey and water, believed to bring sweetness in relationships and success.
Thursday: Use ghee clarified butter or sugarcane juice, symbolizing knowledge and growth.
Friday: Offer curd or rice water, invoking prosperity and family harmony.
Saturday: Use mustard oil or sesame oil, believed to eliminate negativity and evil influences.
Sunday: Offer rose water and lotus flowers, signifying purity and spiritual awakening.
However, if none of these items are available, offering clean water with devotion is enough. Lord Shiva is known as Ashutosh the one who is easily pleased. It is said that he blesses devotees instantly when worship is done with sincerity.
