The redevelopment of Ahmedabad’s Kalupur and Sabarmati railway stations is set to create history by providing a world-class transit hub. According to the Railway DRM, the upgraded station will offer passengers facilities for regular trains, metro rail, and bullet trains, all at one location.
Kalupur Station to Retain 12 Platforms Post-Renovation
Ahmedabad Railway Station is one of Gujarat’s key transit points, featuring 12 platforms and 16 tracks. Under the nationwide railway modernization plan, over 1,300 small and large railway stations are being revamped at a cost of thousands of crores. In Gujarat alone, stations like Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Maninagar, Bhuj, Vatva, Asarva, Bhildi, Viramgam, and Dhrangadhra are being developed at a combined cost of over ₹9,000 crores.
For Ahmedabad Railway Station, ₹2,383 crores have been allocated, while ₹340 crores are set aside for Sabarmati Station, and ₹300 crores for Bhuj Station. The railway authorities aim to complete the redevelopment of all these stations by 2027. Western Railway DRM Sudhir Kumar Sharma, along with other officials, reviewed the progress of the redevelopment work at Ahmedabad and Sabarmati stations during their visit on Wednesday.
World-Class Facilities for Ahmedabad Station
Officials announced that the redevelopment work, including constructing the main building, parcel section, and roads, will be completed within three years. Kalupur station, in particular, is being transformed into a world-class transportation hub, with a massive ₹2,383 crore investment. Three platforms have been temporarily closed to facilitate bullet train construction, but once the renovation is complete, all 12 platforms will become operational again.
Every platform will feature four elevators and four escalators. Additionally, near the iconic Jhulta Minars, a public plaza inspired by the design of the Modhera Sun Temple will be built. This area will provide seating and recreational spaces for passengers.
To ease congestion in the crowded Kalupur area, a six-lane elevated bridge will connect Kalupur Bridge to Sarangpur Bridge, enabling direct access to the station.
Ahmedabad Railway Station will be the first in India to offer passengers the convenience of regular trains, metro rail, and bullet trains from a single location. This redevelopment is set to elevate Ahmedabad’s status as a transportation hub on the global map.
