Surat, (Gujarat) [India]: In a heartfelt ceremony held at the auditorium hall of Surat District Panchayat, 77 retired primary school teachers were honored with shawls and floral bouquets by dignitaries. Additionally, the District Panchayat took the initiative to prioritize pending retirement benefits, including leave pay, group insurance, GP Fund, and pensions, for retired and deceased teachers. This included the resolution of 61 GP Fund cases amounting to approximately Rs. 10.00 crore, 173 group insurance cases totaling around Rs. 2.00 crore, and 41 cases for leave encashment worth Rs. 3.85 crore, leading to a total disbursement of approximately Rs. 16.00 crore to around 275 teachers.

During the event, District Development Officer Shivani Goyal emphasized the invaluable role of teachers in guiding lives and spreading moral values, which lead individuals toward enriched lives. Sharing her thoughts on the occasion, she highlighted the significant contributions teachers make to society and the nation. “Teachers mold the nation’s future as they play a crucial role in the holistic development of individuals and the advancement of society,” she added.

The District Development Officer also expressed that a teacher’s influence never truly ends, and even post-retirement, they continue to offer guidance to students. “Teachers have brought the light of wisdom into the lives of every child,” she stated, wishing the retired teachers a happy and healthy new chapter in life with their families.

Jayeshbhai Patel, the District Primary Education Officer, noted that a teacher embodies a combination of sage, scholar, and mother. “Discipline, compassion, and forgiveness define a teacher, who not only builds society but also serves as a guiding light,” he said, acknowledging the unique status that society accords to teachers, often above even parents.

Former District Panchayat President Bhaveshbhai Patel praised the dedication, hard work, and ideals of the retired teachers, adding, “A teacher connects deeply with a child’s emotions, playing a fundamental role in shaping the nation.”

Several notable dignitaries attended the ceremony, including District Panchayat Education Committee Chairperson Bharatiben Rathod, Irrigation Committee Chairperson Nileshbhai Talavi, Social Justice Committee Chairperson Amishaben Parmar, and other committee members like Sitaben, Deepikaben, Ketanbhai, Rekhaben, Rameshbhai, Kiritbhai Patel, the president of the Primary Education Union, and other officials who extended their heartfelt wishes for a healthy and prosperous retirement life for the honored teachers.
