Indian Railways is set to introduce a new all-in-one travel app this December, providing users with access to all railway services in one place. Developed collaboratively by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), this super app aims to enhance convenience and simplify travel-related processes.
All-in-One App for a Seamless Experience
With the launch of this super app, passengers will be able to perform multiple tasks, including ticket booking, checking platform tickets, train status, ordering food, and lodging complaints, all from a single app. Currently, each of these services requires separate applications, meaning users need four different apps for a complete experience. Now, all these facilities will be unified in one app, making travel planning easier.
IRCTC Takes the Lead
The IRCTC, serving as the bridge between passengers and the Centre for Railway Information Systems, will manage the app once it is ready. This project is also a step for IRCTC towards boosting its services and increasing revenue by offering a more user-friendly solution for travelers.
Revenue Growth Potential for IRCTC
For the fiscal year 2023-24, IRCTC reported a revenue of ₹4270.18 crores, with a profit of ₹1111.26 crores. Ticket booking alone contributed 30.33% to the revenue, with 453 million tickets booked in the year. By offering improved and consolidated services, the new app is expected to drive even higher ticket revenue, providing users with an easier and more efficient experience.
This super app could be a game-changer for Indian Railways and its passengers, providing a streamlined, efficient way to access essential travel services.
