Sushena Health Foundation to Launch India’s First Colostrum Milk Bank

Hyderabad, (Telangana), [India], September 26, 2024: The city of Hyderabad will host the largest lactation management and breast milk banking conference on the 28th and 29th of September 2024, at Hotel Marigold, with sessions scheduled across different locations in the city. The 4th International Conference, South Asian LAMBCON 2024 will witness participation from over 500 delegates, including 20 international attendees from Sri Lanka, Nepal, East Timor, and the Philippines.

Organized by Sushena Health Foundation in partnership with Dhaatri Mothers’ Milk Bank, and supported by prominent organizations such as UNICEF, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), and the National Neonatology Forum (NNF), the conference will feature over 30 sessions on topics like Basic Lactation Management, Advanced Lactation Management, and Human Milk Banking.

One of the key announcements at the conference will be the inauguration of India’s first Colostrum Milk Bank in Hyderabad, an initiative by Sushena Health Foundation. Colostrum, the first form of breast milk produced after childbirth, is known for its immense nutritional benefits.

Dignitaries gracing the event include Shri Dr. B.N. Gangadhar, Chairman of the National Medical Commission, Shri R.V. Karnan, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, and Dr. Sridhar Prahlad Ryavanki, Health Specialist at UNICEF. These experts, along with others, will contribute to discussions aimed at raising awareness about breastfeeding and improving lactation management practices.

Currently, only 41.8% of babies in Telangana are breastfed early, compared to 54% across India. Sushena Health Foundation aims to increase the rate of breastfed babies to 90% within the next five years and significantly reduce the infant mortality rate. Since its inception seven years ago, the foundation has been leading efforts to establish milk banks and support lactating mothers across the country.

The conference is open to pediatricians, gynecologists, lactation consultants, nurses, and other medical professionals, offering a platform to enhance their knowledge of lactation management. Renowned speakers such as Dr. Arun K. Singh from AIIMS Jodhpur and Dr. Santhosh Kumar Kraleti, General Secretary of Sushena Health Foundation, will address the gathering.
