Cibi Chakaravarthi, who will helm the Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s next, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173. The film will be produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and is slated to hit theaters during Pongal 2027.
Cibi Chakaravarthi replaces Sundar C, who was initially announced as the director but later dropped out due to “unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.” The announcement was made on Saturday by Raaj Kamal Films International with a post on social media.
Overjoyed by this development, Cibi shared an emotional message stating that the opportunity to direct Rajinikanth was his lifetime wish. He thanked Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for believing in him and assured them he would give his best to the project.
Cibi made his directorial debut with the 2022 comedy film Don starring Sivakarthikeyan, which was a commercial success.
Kamal Haasan was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life and is shooting for another project. Rajinikanth was also seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie and is next seen in Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2.
Thalaivar 173 becomes special because it marks the first on-screen collaboration of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in 46 years, thus making it one of the most awaited Tamil films.
