To encourage farmers in Gujarat to set up storage facilities on their farms, the Chief Minister’s Crop Storage Structure Scheme was introduced. Under this scheme, farmers are required to build a crop storage structure covering at least 330 square feet of area on their farm, with financial assistance provided by the state government. Now, the assistance under the scheme has been increased from ₹75,000 to ₹1 lakh to help protect farmers’ produce from various risks.
Revised Financial Assistance
Previously, under the scheme, farmers were eligible for assistance amounting to 50% of the total cost or up to ₹75,000, whichever was lower. With the recent increase, farmers can now receive financial aid of 50% of the total cost or ₹1 lakh, whichever is lower, to construct crop storage structures.
Over ₹184.27 Crore Disbursed to Farmers
Since the scheme’s launch in 2021-22, more than 36,600 farmers across the state have benefited, receiving over ₹184.27 crore in assistance. With the enhanced aid, 13,982 farmers have already been granted prior approval this year to build crop storage structures under the scheme.
Boost to Farmers’ Income
These storage facilities, measuring 330 square feet and offering a storage capacity of approximately 16-17 metric tons, provide protection against unpredictable weather events such as rain, storms, locusts, and theft. Additionally, farmers can securely store fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, farming tools, irrigation equipment, and tarpaulin in these structures.
By safeguarding crops and essential materials, the scheme not only minimizes post-harvest losses but also contributes to increasing farmers’ incomes, ensuring long-term benefits for the agricultural community in Gujarat.
