YouTube’s New Approach: Third-Party Content & App Redesign

YouTube is reportedly working on a major update that will introduce third-party content to its platform, similar to streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. According to a report by The Information, YouTube will integrate paid content from services such as Paramount and Max into its TV app.

This move isn’t entirely new, as YouTube introduced Primetime Channels in 2022, allowing users to access shows, movies, and sports from over 30 channels, including Showtime, Starz, and AMC Plus. However, due to limited user engagement, the development was paused.

Now, YouTube is revamping its approach, making its app more user-friendly by restructuring its content layout. The new design will resemble Prime Video and Disney Plus, featuring content rows that categorize shows, movies, and live TV more efficiently.

What’s Changing?

Kurt William, YouTube’s Senior Director of Product Management, stated:
“No matter what the business model is, no matter what the content type is, it’s all right there [on YouTube].”

The redesigned YouTube app is expected to launch in the coming months, marking a significant shift in how users consume content on the platform.
