Kolkata, 30th September 2024: The Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park proudly reveals its 56th Durga Puja theme, which this year draws inspiration from the White House, the iconic residence and office of the President of the United States. Known as one of Central Kolkata’s most prestigious and historic Durga Pujas, Mohammad Ali Park is set to mark its 56th year of grand celebrations.
The Durga idol this year, crafted by renowned artist Kush Bera, will focus on the pressing issue of water conservation. With Bengal facing a growing water crisis, this depiction emphasizes the significance of water as a lifeline, urging people to take action against water pollution and wastage. The puja committee has taken a strong stance on raising public awareness about environmental sustainability, ensuring that this year’s festivities carry a deeper message for future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Surendra Kr. Sharma, General Secretary of the Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja, said, “This year, under the artistic guidance of talented artisan Goal Das from Medinipur, the mandap will feature exquisite Bengali handicrafts, including intricate jute works and handmade decorations. These elements will beautifully merge the essence of both cultures. The idol, created by the masterful hands of Kush Bera, will send a powerful message on water conservation, a theme we believe resonates strongly with the current environmental challenges in Bengal. We hope to educate and inspire action against water pollution and wastage through our puja celebrations.”
