In a first-of-its-kind initiative, over 111 officers and employees of Union Bank of India’s Surat Regional Office, including Regional Head Mrs. Shweta Sawa, took a pledge to support organ donation through Donate Life, setting a strong example for others to follow.
The Vigilance Awareness Week-2024, organized by Union Bank of India Surat Regional Office on October 24th and 25th, saw Nilesh Mandalewala, the founder of Donate Life, invited as the key speaker. Nilesh provided valuable insights on topics such as brain death, the types of organs that can be donated, who can become an organ donor, and why organ donation is so important. He explained that millions of people in India lose their lives every year due to the unavailability of organs at the right time. He stressed that the organs of your loved ones aren’t needed in heaven, but they are critical for those in need on Earth.
Nilesh Mandalewala also mentioned that India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has set a vision to make India a developed nation by 2047. He expressed hope that by 2047, when India celebrates the 100th anniversary of its independence, no one would die due to a lack of organs. This vision aligns with Donate Life’s mission. He urged all attendees to take a pledge for organ donation.
During the seminar, Union Bank of India’s Surat Regional Head, Mrs. Shweta Sawa, set an inspiring example by filling out the organ donation pledge form. On the occasion of Union Bank of India’s 106th Foundation Day, more than 111 officers and employees took the pledge for organ donation, contributing to a noble cause. Each participant was awarded an organ donation pledge certificate by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Mrs. Shweta Sawa commended the excellent work being done by Donate Life in promoting organ donation and extended her heartfelt congratulations to the organization.
