Surat Students Build AI-Powered Bike ‘Garuda’: Experts Predict Driverless Bikes in Gujarat’s Future

Surat, known for its dominance in the diamond and textile industries, is now making waves in technology and innovation. Three mechanical engineering students from Bhagwan Mahavir University have developed an AI-powered futuristic bike named ‘Garuda’.

The students Shivam Maurya, Gurpreet Arora, and Ganesh Patil used 50% scrap parts and manufactured the remaining components themselves. The total cost of building this bike was approximately ₹1.8 lakh.

Inspired by Tesla’s Autonomous Technology
In today’s era of advanced technology, companies like Tesla have laid the foundation for autonomous vehicles. Inspired by this concept, the students designed Garuda. Although the current prototype requires a rider’s presence, the future goal is to make it fully driverless.

The bike operates on Wi-Fi and a self-driving system, eliminating the need for a rider. It runs on a command-based system, which follows instructions given by the user. The core of this innovation is a Raspberry Pi, a small yet powerful computer that processes commands and executes them autonomously.

Experts believe this project marks a major step toward Gujarat’s future in AI-driven mobility, and in the coming years, driverless bikes could become a reality on Indian roads.
