Surat, December 13: Surat Railway Station is being transformed into a Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH) to provide world-class facilities for passengers in the future. This ambitious redevelopment project is a collaboration between Indian Railways, the state government, and Surat Municipal Corporation, aiming to establish Surat as a key transportation center. The MMTH project seeks to integrate major transport services like buses, metro, and BRTS under one roof.

Key Features

According to Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mr. Vineet Abhishek, the MMTH project involves extensive construction work on both the eastern and western sides of the station. The work on Platform No. 4 has been completed, while construction on Platforms 2 and 3 will commence shortly and is expected to be completed within 98 days.

The project will include passenger-centric facilities such as:

  • BRTS/City Bus Terminal
  • Parking Zones
  • Recreational Areas
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Elevated Corridor and Skywalks

Additionally, a new East-West road connection is proposed to enhance accessibility to Surat’s eastern region.

Collaboration Between Key Stakeholders

The MMTH project is being funded collaboratively, with the Ministry of Railways contributing 63%, the state government providing 24%, and Surat Municipal Corporation accounting for 3%. This initiative is expected to significantly improve connectivity, generate new employment opportunities, and boost business activities in Surat.

Seamless Passenger Connectivity

Passengers will benefit from a one-stop solution to access various modes of transportation. The integration of buses, metro, and other transport services in a centralized location will make travel convenient. For this, three skywalks, each 6 meters wide, are being constructed to ensure smooth passenger movement.

Targeted Completion by 2026

The MMTH project is slated for completion by the end of 2026. The transformed Surat Railway Station will not only enhance passenger amenities but also establish Surat as a vital hub in the region’s transportation network.
