A dramatic new twist has emerged in the tragic suicide case of 28-year-old physiotherapist Dr. Radhika Kotadiya from Surat. Police investigations have revealed that emotional distress caused by comments from her fiancé’s aunt, followed by a “cross-verification” attempt by her fiancé, may have triggered her fatal decision. The incident occurred on November 21 around 7:15 pm at the Chai Partner Café located on the ninth floor of the Sarathana Business Hub near Sarathana Jakatnaka.
According to the police, Radhika had been deeply upset over remarks allegedly made by her fiancé’s aunt. When she expressed her concerns to her fiancé, he approached the aunt to verify the matter. This act of cross-checking reportedly hurt Radhika to the extent that she felt betrayed and emotionally overwhelmed. WhatsApp chats recovered from her phone provided crucial insight into her emotional state in the days leading up to the tragedy.
Radhika lived with her family in Vishva Residency near Shyamdham Temple in Sarathana Jakatnaka and operated her physiotherapy clinic, Shreeji Clinic, at Vikas Shoppers. Originally from Moti Bhagedi village in Jamnagar’s Kalavad taluka, she had built a stable career and was known to be soft-spoken and dedicated. Her engagement to a man named Kishan had taken place in May earlier this year, and the wedding was scheduled for February 2025.
The suicide shocked the city, quickly becoming a major topic of public discussion. For the last three days, a team led by Sarathana Police PI K.A. Chavda has been investigating the case. The WhatsApp conversations between Radhika and her fiancé became the primary focus of the probe. In one of the messages, she had told him that not all small issues need to be disclosed to parents and that certain matters should be managed independently. This indicated her desire to avoid family conflicts and maintain emotional balance within the relationship.
However, her fiancé reportedly went to his aunt and confronted her about Radhika’s claims. The aunt denied making any inappropriate comments. When Radhika learned that her fiancé had cross-checked her statements, she felt deeply hurt. According to the police, this emotional setback played a significant role in pushing her toward suicide.
Investigators found that before jumping from the ninth floor, Radhika consumed poisonous medication. She was familiar with the café and had visited it often, even with her fiancé. Police believe she intentionally chose the place for her final act because it was emotionally significant to her.
So far, Kishan’s statements have been recorded, and he maintains that there was no intention to hurt Radhika. He told investigators that her emotional reaction to the cross-verification was unexpected. Police are now preparing to record statements from Radhika’s family, who have not filed any complaint so far. They have stated they will complete all rituals and then provide their detailed version to the authorities.
For now, the police have concluded that emotional distress triggered by family comments, combined with the misunderstanding between Radhika and her fiancé, likely led her to take the extreme step. However, further clarity will emerge after her parents’ statements and forensic examination of her mobile data. The investigation remains active, and authorities are working to determine whether any form of instigation or mental harassment was involved.
