Surat Diamond Bourse Offers Four Months of Rent-Free Trade Cabins to Boost Diamond Business
In a major step toward expanding Surat’s diamond industry, 152 new diamond trading cabins were inaugurated at the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) on Friday by City Mayor Daxesh Mavani. Located in the Khajod area, the SDB is gradually transforming into a key center for diamond trade as businesses continue to shift their operations there.
To provide opportunities for small and medium-sized traders, the Bourse has introduced over 150 trading cabins. Of the 90 cabins allotted on the inauguration day, 70 traders began operations immediately, marking the beginning of a new business phase in the diamond city.
Mayor Mavani stated that world-class infrastructure and services at SDB would catalyze rapid business growth. He also affirmed that the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will extend all necessary support for the development of the Bourse. Plans are also underway to connect SDB with the city’s upcoming Metro and bus transport network, enhancing accessibility for traders and visitors alike.
Govind Dholakia, Chairman of Surat Diamond Bourse, congratulated all new traders and expressed confidence that their businesses would thrive in the supportive ecosystem provided. Vice Chairman Lalji Patel further announced a generous concession for early traders — they will receive a 33% discount on one year’s rent, meaning they will pay for only 8 out of 12 months.
In addition, acknowledging the current economic slowdown, the SDB management made a landmark decision to waive rent completely for the first four months for new cabin holders. This move is expected to ease the financial burden on budding entrepreneurs and help them establish their presence in the market.
With such proactive policies and strategic planning, Surat Diamond Bourse is set to become a global hub for diamond trading, reinforcing Surat’s reputation as the “Diamond Capital of the World.”
